Poetic Place is a project that seeks to engage, captivate and elevate the voices of local young people and marginalised communities (people of colour, disabled people, and queer communities) through the power of spoken word and creative writing.
From November 2025 to March 2026, we delivered 11 workshops with 8 different community groups and organisations across Havering, and 5 open mics at different venues each time. Against a budget of 15k, i managed to keep costs under 12k.
We have worked with Compass School, Habbit Factory, Olive Academy, Havering Adults with Disabilities, NCC Ardleigh Green, 16+ Care Leavers & Refugees, Harris Academy Sixth Form and NCC Havering Sixth Form.
Through these and open mics, we gathered almost 100 poems and engaged over 260 people.
I produced and coordinated this project but couldn’t do it without my collaborator and poetry facilitator, Lalah Simone Springer. She helped shape workshop formats and lead on delivery.
