Colours of Redbridge – Community Research, Co-design and Project Delivery

Colours of Redbridge is a three-year program dedicated to empowering local communities through arts and culture. As a Community Engagement Officer, I played the lead role in shaping three key projects. These included fashion workshops and a catwalk, cultural food workshops, and community mural painting and workshops.

I recruited and worked closely with 15 Community Producers over six months. I facilitated co-design meetings to gather valuable insights and ideas. Together, we developed a comprehensive plan, ensuring that the projects aligned with the community’s needs and aspirations.

From researching facilitators to booking venues and scheduling workshops. My focus was on creating inclusive and engaging experiences that fostered creativity, connection, and a sense of belonging.

Food

A week of workshops took place at the newly opened Mercarto Metropolitano Ilford. Laur Fritton captured the workshops with live illustrations. Each day ended with a musical performance from ELAM alumni.

Fashion

A 12 week course teaching 30 locals the basics of fashion design, technical skills and sustainability, facilitated by Caramel Rock. These workshops all culminated in a catwalk in the Exchange Shopping Centre in Ilford.

Murals

A community-led mural project that transformed a neglected underpass into a vibrant celebration of Redbridge’s heritage and future. Through workshops with artist Erin Aniker, local residents, schools, and care homes co-created a design that reflects the town’s unique identity. Community members then had the opportunity to participate in painting sessions, bringing the mural to life.
