Hackney 300 was a social media campaign launched in 2020 to bridge the digital divide in our community. While national statistics suggested near-universal internet access, local listening revealed a different reality – shared devices, inadequate equipment, and a lack of digital literacy among some residents.
Through co-creation with the community, I shot and edited a video campaign that rallied major tech companies such as Amazon to join a mutual aid initiative. The campaign, led by a team of volunteers with a range of skills, has so far secured £20,000 and a surplus of computers to donate. This will allow residents to work, learn, and stay connected online.
